CHORE Service   Volunteer Handypersons needed for the Volunteer Center’s Chore Service, which provides free home repairs that keep Bergen County senior and disabled homeowners safe in their homes.  Volunteers should be able to perform minor home repairs that any able-bodied homeowner can do,  and must be available for 1 shift per week—shifts are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm

Bright Side Manor, Teaneck, is looking for a few volunteer typists to assist the organization with updating documents and manuals.  Typing can be done on site or at home.  Volunteers must be at least 16.  Contact Joanne O'Niell at 201-692-1000 if you are interested.

Children's Aid & Family Service
is teaming up with the PGA Tour, the Barclay's, this summer and they need your help.  A Volunteer office assistant is needed to assist in managing the project for Children's Aid.  Volunteer will assist with office admin, special events and more. Volunteer is needed August 11-24th from 7am - 6pm.  Volunteer must be at least 16 years old. Contact Henah Parikh at 201-740-7102 to learn more.

The 34th National Veterans Wheelchair Games are co-presented by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Paralyzed Veterans of America.  Over 600 Veteran athletes will come to the City of Brotherly Love and neighboring New Jersey August 12-17, 2014, from around the United States and Great Britain.  Athletes can participate in 17 sporting events ranging from basketball, swimming, softball, quad rugby, bowling, track, field, archery, and many more. NY-NJ Trail Conference is looking for Front Desk Receptionist who can help out Monday-Friday, 9 am to 1 pm or 1 pm – 5 pm.  This indoor job is all about getting people outdoors.  Volunteer Receptionists greet people, help with answering phones and assist with other tasks important to the day to day operations of the agency. Must be 18 years of age to work alone. 11 to 17 year olds are welcome to volunteer along with a parent or guardian.  Volunteers receive an agency and position orientation.  Please contact Volunteer Manager John Leigh at 201-512-9348 or jleigh@nynjtc.org to find out more and/or apply.

Great Volunteer Opportunity at the Barclays Golf Tournament. Volunteers are need to help Project Literacy of Greater Bergen County at the upcoming Barclays Golf Tournament.  The Barclays are being held at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus from August 19 -24.  Project Literacy can use up to 50 volunteers, ages 12-18 with an adult, and 18 and older to help work at the concession stand.  For further information or to sign up, you must contact Scott Reddin at 201-489-7066 or sreddin@project-literacy.org.

HURRICANE SANDY RECOVERY

Hundreds of our Bergen County neighbors are still recovering from Hurricane Sandy.  Find out how you can help the Bergen County VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster), which the Volunteer Center is coordinating at our Recovery Information Center in Moonachie.

Summer Interns Needed!
The Bergen VOAD is looking for some summer intern help at the Hurricane Sandy Recovery Information Center in Moonachie. Students over 18, who can work at least 12 hours a week on a regular schedule are encouraged to apply. This is a great opportunity for students with a background or interest in social work. Please see the job posting for details.

Ongoing Volunteer Help Needed
Bergen County Hurricane Sandy Recovery (www.bergenvoad.org) needs volunteers to help with home restoration projects!  We especially need people with experience with sheetrock, flooring and finishing carpentry but unskilled volunteers are also welcome for smaller jobs. You must be 16 or older and volunteers under 18 must have adult supervision. Please email Marisa Santiago at
