Volunteers:
|
- provide friendship, support and guidance
- share weekly recreational and educational activities
- enhance self-esteem
- reinforce positive behavior
- promote personal growth
- offer guidance in acquiring life skills

All mentors are
provided with a comprehensive 15-hour, six-session evening training program which is offered three times per year in September, January, and March. Volunteers receive ongoing support and guidance from the VIPS program staff and other volunteers.
Written references as well as fingerprint, background and motor vehicle checks are required of all volunteers seeking to become mentors in Volunteer Center mentoring programs.

"Mentoring
Moms" Volunteers are mentors and role models to isolated and/or overwhelmed mothers referred by the Division of Youth and Family
Services and the Welfare to Work Program.
 |
| Mentoring
Moms volunteers: |
- offer supportive friendship and encouragement
- enhance self-esteem
- promote
self-sufficiency
- help improve parenting and life skills
- support mothers in becoming more responsive and responsible parents
- provide information and guidance about available community services and resources
