GREAT IDEA FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS LOOKING TO HELP OTHERS
You can work with your administrators and teachers to set up a Service Fair or Program and bring the agencies right to your school. Students will have the opportunity to meet with and talk to volunteer managers who work with teen volunteers. You will be able to find positions that interest you. For ideas about and help in planning a fair, please contact the Volunteer Center of Bergen County. Please reach out to Debbie Emery, Director, Community Volunteer Services at demery@bergenvolunteers.org or 201-489-9454, x118.

MAHWAH HIGH SCHOOL'S COMMUNITY SERVICE FAIR - One Stop Shopping for all your volunteer needs
Mahwah High School hosted their first annual Community Service Fair this Spring. Students got to spend their free time meeting with representatives from local nonprofits to investigate volunteer opportunities in the community. Over 100 students attended the event, which was organized by guidance counselor and community service coordinator Stacy Mandel.
The goals of the fair were to educate students about service opportunities right in their backyard and to forge relationships between the school and these organizations. Student volunteers represented their respective organizations at the fair, so other students to get the scoop on volunteering there. |
One senior commented, "I wish we had this fair before. It was so for hard me to find the right volunteer job. Today, I found 10 different things that I would love to do to help out."
Students at Mahwah High School can earn up to 10 credits for doing volunteer work with prior approval the service coordinator, and students volunteer with myriad organizations, many of which were present at the fair.
Mahwah High School thanks all of the organizations who participated:
